Born in Mer\u00ec (Me) in 1942, Lorenzo, belonging to the same family stock as Rocco Chinnici, has been interested in colours and art since childhood. He received his first teaching from Renato Guttuso, whom he met in 1953 in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto during an exhibition. The Maestro, struck by the attention paid to the paintings of that 'picciriddu', offered him advice. His association with a local painter, Salvatore La Rosa, known by the pseudonym Furnari, was to last longer. Furnari, who had already settled in Liguria, on his return to his home town in Sicily, met the young Lorenzo who, after meeting Guttuso, was now irremediably attracted to the art of painting. <\/span><\/p>\n

It was Furnari who gave Chinnici his first colours and initiated him into the secrets of art. Several times Furnari would exhibit with his pupil, at least until the early 1970s. In 1965, during a very popular extemporaneous exhibition, Lorenzo Chinnici was noticed and awarded a prize by Salvatore Pugliatti, emeritus jurist and Rector of the University of Messina, a well-known admirer of the arts. In the meantime, Lorenzo Chinnici graduated and became a professional artist. In the course of his life, he would have many encounters with other artists, often stemming from his frequentation of the enlightened art dealer at Meceden in Milazzo, Nino Caruso, who has been involved in Chinnici's art in Sicily and abroad since 1969. Lorenzo also had the opportunity to frequent the Bottega d'Arte of Salvatore Fiume, with whom he formed a strong human relationship that also saw the exchange of paintings between the two on the occasion of family events. As the years progressed, his acquaintances with other great artists thickened: Mario Rossello, Giuseppe Migneco, Aligi Sassu, Ernesto Treccani and Ugo Nespolo. During these frequentations, Chinnici had positive feedback from his colleagues, feedback that increasingly consolidated him in his vocation and artistic commitment, fortifying him in the pain of the illness that had always afflicted him. <\/span><\/p>\n

After the age of 40, the burden of pain increases and Lorenzo, who never loses the fire of his artistic passion and love for his land, leaves in the 1980s and 1990s for spiritual retreats in Assisi. These moments of profound introspection helped the artist to return to painting again strong and determined to do more and better. Shy of notoriety, disinterested in commercial painting, in easy success, Lorenzo Chinnici says he paints for himself, only to process and bring out the moods that come over him. Over the years, Chinnici has followed his broad artistic vein, which makes him practise any technique, from watercolour to murals, from fresco to stone. In 2017, the museum dedicated to Chinnici was set up in the halls of the Suburban Park in Mer\u00ec (me). <\/span><\/p>\n

His name is reviewed in 2000 national and international magazines, about 100 figures connected to the world of art and culture have written about him. Numerous collaborations with hundreds of international artists. Three hundred exhibitions in different cities around the world. He continues to live and work in Sicily.
